In an interview with Corriere dello Sport, Napoli’s president De Laurentiis confirmed that Napoli were no longer seeking Mauro Icardi’s services.

“You get over some crushes, they live in the moment,” De Laurentiis told the Corriere dello Sport newspaper.

“We’ve all been through it as young lads. You feel the heart beat fast in the summer, then you go back to school, see that classmate again and smile. It’s difficult to reproduce those sentiments and situations.”

“We’re not making a collection of Number 9s. We’ve lowered the average age of the squad and will continue along the philosophy that brought us to Alex Meret and Fabian Ruiz, but also Kevin Malcuit. Who could’ve known he’d be so effective?”

De Laurentiis was asked if Hirving Lozano and Pablo Fornals of Villarreal fit the profile.

“It’s true that I like both of them, but that is not enough, as you well know. Every year there are new actors who had little attention and then leap into the spotlight. There are agents who make apparently simple situations much more complicated.”

Thus dropping another hint about the reasons why Icardi was removed from Napoli’s shortlist.

After Real Madrid, it is now the Partenopei side that decides to give up on the Icardi race.
