Champions of Italy start their campaign with an emphatic victory over Genoa. Inzaghi’s men took the lead early and never looked back.
Hakan, Dzeko scored on their debuts while Skriniar and Vidal provided the additional goals.
Inzaghi couldn’t have hoped for a better start to the campaign. He spoke to the media after the match and said:
“I was fairly sure we’d play well, I’ve watched these guys train with real desire. They’ve been really keen to learn the new ideas that my staff and I have tried to share with them.”
“We got off to the best possible start today in front of our fan. We couldn’t have asked for a better start.”
“I’m lucky because I have so many quality attacking players. Calhanoglu is a top-drawer footballer and Dzeko just shows how it’s done as a No.9.”
“There’s so much quality throughout this squad. Every coach has their own ideas but what I find reassuring is seeing the lads working with so much effort and commitment. That’s the most important thing you want to see as a coach.”
Hakan Calhanoglu announced himself to the Nerazzurri fans in the best way possible. first curling in the corner for Milan Skriniar to open the scoring, and then firing in a brilliant goal of his own to make it 2-0.
“I want to thank the fans because I could really feel their support. I want to give everything for Inter. I’ll do everything I can to make the fans happy.”
“We have a great group of lads here and it’s easy to play with top-quality footballers whose movement is so good. We enjoyed ourselves out there today. It was a great performance and we want to carry on like this.”
Milan Skriniar picked up where he left off last season. The Slovakian defender was instrumental throughout the game, almost scoring a second and saving one at the other end with an incredible recovery at the goal line.
“We have to go into every game with this attitude, to always play at our best and not leave any space for our opponents. Many teams come here and play defensively, but if you’re proactive and grab an early goal you can find a way to hurt your opponents.”
“Winning the Scudetto has given us certainty but also a responsibility. We will fight to defend the title. We can still do well and we must remain united, just like today.”
Inter will take on Verona on Friday.
