Inter Milan claimed an easy victory over a deflated Genoa side at the San Siro this evening. Lukaku scored a brace and provided an assist while Esposito also scored on Inter debut. Also, Gagliardini got his name on the scoring sheet after returning from Injury.

Here are few words from the Nerazzurri players after the match.

Antonio Conte “The difficulties we have faced made the squad more responsible. This shows that we’ve always had the right attitude.” He also praised his defiant midfielders who put up an outstanding performance “It wasn’t an easy match but we put in a brilliant performance despite all the difficulties and players missing. Players such as Gagliardini, Vecino and Borja Valero made themselves available even though they weren’t in the best condition and when you have these players who put the team ahead of everything, you can be pleased regardless of the result. Now, we need to keep it up and keep surprising people while looking to get better every day.”

Coach also had special words for Esposito “He has grown massively in the last few months and I had said before that I’d be counting on him in times of need. He had a big chance today and he certainly made the most of it. He’s got a great future ahead of him, both his family and myself will help him, and if he continues like this then he’ll only improve.”

Sebastian Esposito“It has been a fantastic week, I didn’t sleep a lot thinking about how this game would go. I’d like to thank the team, the Coach, the Club and Romelu, especially for the goal. He’s a fantastic person and an extraordinary player. He told me to be sure of myself when I stepped up to strike the ball and to score.”

Roberto Gagliardini “We worked and prepared some of our movements based on how they played, they had a lot of players in the center of the pitch so we wanted to spread things out, even with the central midfielders. Lukaku told me to come and support when he had his back to goal, I did exactly that and I scored from it!”

Stefano Sensi “I missed playing for the team because it’s been two long and difficult months out. I’m happy to be back on the pitch but more than anything because I feel good. I got goosebumps when I came on, I’ve missed playing at San Siro so much. We’re happy with today’s result and that we were able to round off this year with a win to wish our fans a merry Christmas

Inter’s convincing win over Genoa takes them to the top of the league with 42 points heading in to the break. Upon return, Inter will have few  very important games against Napoli, Atalanta and Cagliari. Inter will be looking to maintain their form while adding much needed reinforcements in the January transfer window.
