Part Three: Left Back
This position has been our weakest for so long, I honestly can’t remember the last consistent player in that role after Roberto Carlos. Chivu, Georgatos, Favalli, Grosso, Maxwell, Santon, Coco, Gresko, Panucci, Nagatomo, Pereira, Dodo, Telles, Ansaldi, Pasquale and Dalbert are just some that I can remember in the past 20 years and a lot of them I would like to forget! I thought we finally broke the spell with Asamoah but after a great start, he’s seen his form dip into an inconsistent manner. He still has plenty of time to redeem himself, but just to play safe and have a replacement of good or superior level, these are a couple of options:
Option 1: Matteo Darmian
Age: 29
Value: €10M
Club: Man. Utd
Agent: TMP Soccer (Many Serie A players including Eder, Ranocchia, Bastoni, Longo, Sansone…).
Pioli was trying to get to him 2 years ago, Spalletti was close to loan him this summer, with his contract ending in 6 months, this could be the right chance to see Darmian in our colours. Able to play as right or left back, the Italian player said in the past that he would welcome the idea to come back in Serie A. Lazio and Juve are the only other options for him at the moment. On a free transfer this summer or with a big discount in January, there is a very good possibility to see Darmian wearing a new jersey soon.

Option 2: Diego Godin, 32. Value €30M, Atl. Madrid, Agent Paco Casal
This is a tricky situation. Despite having his contract expiring this summer, Godin doesn’t seem interested in renewing or moving to any particular team. Apparently Mourinho was ready to offer €20M in this January window and Simeone laugh at this, saying they would need way more than 20 milion. Which is understandable, Godin’s experience is unbelievable (mostly at CB but has been known to play on the left of a back 3 frequently) and it would give so much more defensive power to any team. But on the other hand, he could sign on a fee transfer with anybody in just few months. Juve and Milan are also keen to sign him, Leonardo seems very involved in the talking, although someone says that we are still in the run after all. Could this be a first move from Coach-to-be Simeone?!
