A late goal has ensured Inter continue their winning streak. This is all thanks to a beautiful Hakimi assist for a Darmian finish.
With only 8 matches remaining, Inter will want to put this title race to bed early with victories in the next few matches. All the pressure is on the chasers in Milan and Juventus, as they need to be perfect with zero slipups.
As confident as Inter are looking at the moment, there is still a long way to go. With 11 wins in a row and an 11 point gap, it’s all in Inter’s hands.
Let’s dive a bit further into the match against Cagliari.
Defence so important –
Finally we had our indestructible back three all together again. With De Vrij, Bastoni and Skriniar working together, it’s very hard for opposition teams to string any attacking plays together.
De Vrij was a man possessed today. No players got passed him and he demolished anyone who came in his way. It was fantastic to get another clean sheet too.
For years De Vrij has been a great defender, but this season he has now become world class. Putting himself into any conversations for “greatest defender in the world” at the moment.
It’s a credit to our back three who have been pinnacle in defining where Inter will finish this season.
I’ve got the need – Need for speed!
In the match against Cagliari, we saw Ashley Young really struggle to make any space for himself. There were a couple of good runs, but he wasn’t able to create any clear cut chances for our attackers to get on the end of.
In comes Hakimi and suddenly the match completely changes. Darmian is switched to the left and Hakimi makes acres of space for himself to run into. A perfect 1-2 with Lukaku lead to the only goal of the match.
It’s very hard to compare, but I haven’t seen a wingback with this much speed and skill since the days of Maicon. Hakimi, keep doing what you do!
He’s actually impressed me –
To be honest, I was one of the people saying Eriksen should’ve been sold to start the Winter transfer window. Eriksen wasn’t offering much to the team, and when he did play it looked like his spirit was missing.
Since the freekick goal against Milan, I’ve been nothing but impressed with the performances of Eriksen. Working alongside Brozovic has been great to watch, and their combination is starting to improve.
Once Barella comes back, we will see a much better Eriksen performance. With Sensi in the midfield, I thought the balance was completely out but Inter were still able to get the result which is the main thing.
Where to next?
In what may prove to be the most important fixture of the season, Inter head to Naples. An away fixture against Napoli is the perfect test, and this will really seal the title if a win can be accomplished.
Prediction – Inter 1-0
As always, Forza Inter!
