Inter have played out a 0-0 draw with Genoa to remain winless in the league throughout the entire month of February.
Where do we go from here?
I’m lost for words, and have been for the past couple of weeks. The results against Milan, Sassuolo and now Genoa have been terrible. The draw away to Napoli isn’t a bad result, but these others are unacceptable.
It’s hard to look forward but we really need to. The match against Genoa needs to be forgotten ASAP, as there’s just no reason to reflect on such a horrible performance from the whole team.
For a player who hasn’t contributed as much as we hoped in Correa, we really need him back. That is the level we are currently at because our strikers in Dzeko, Lautaro and Sanchez just aren’t capable of consistently scoring.
The midfield looked off today too, and unfortunately there isn’t anyone on the bench who can take their place. Vidal is the only maybe, but he was horrendous when he came on against Genoa. The simple passing from him went out the window completely.
Finally our defence had a clean sheet, and we didn’t concede a goal from the only shot on target. It’s an improvement to the already low standards we’ve had recently with Handanovic.
Contracts?
The longer these contracts discussions go on, the more detrimental it is to the team. We need to know the futures of Brozovic, Perisic, De Vrij and Handanovic. The longer there is this unknown, the more these players have other things on their minds.
If they are staying then that’s fantastic, but if they are leaving the club then it has to be announced so rumours aren’t flying around everywhere.
Brozovic played like a guy today who couldn’t care less about his future. In attack he made several errors and wasn’t his usual self. The amount of turnovers in dangerous areas almost cost Inter as he was very carefree.
Perisic week in week out is superb. This is all from a guy who has zero competition making him strive for more. Our latest signing Gosens hasn’t even hit the field yet, and Perisic is still performing at optimum levels.
I’m still a bit stunned why he was replaced today, when we saw on the other side of the field that Dumfries was struggling.
Kicking ourselves!
Two matches in a row we have completely shot ourselves in the foot. Firstly against Sassuolo when A.C Milan dropped points to Salernitana. Then again this week as Milan drew with Udinese and we couldn’t capitalize with a win over Genoa.
The more we do this, the more we are inviting Juventus into a title race which didn’t even exist for them. This Inter side should’ve point a knife to the neck of this league, as no team has any right to be within 6 points of us.
It’s embarrassing how much we are underperforming right now, and it feels like it’s all mental. Physically these players are capable, but there seems to be a blocker. Inzaghi needs to get the players back on track and instill some confidence into them.
Where to next?
The Coppa Italia awaits Inter, and maybe a win over cross city rivals Milan will be the boost we need. Ever since we versed them in the league, they burst our bubble so it could be time for some payback.
Prediction: 2-2
