Inter’s unbeaten run away from home in Serie A would continue against a previous bogey team in Sassuolo. After arguably Inter’s worst performance of the season against Madrid, we would see Inter bounce back taking all 3 points.
A clean sheet, three goals and a really strong showing would finish off another underwhelming month of football. Even though October and November were poor, Inter is sitting in second position in Serie A which is very surprising to see.
Let’s look a bit further into where things went right for the Nerazzurri verse the Neroverdi.
South American Flair –
The key tonight was the strike-force of Alexis and Lautaro linking up perfectly to provide major attacking prowess for Inter.
In the 4th minute, the deadline would be broken with Lautaro outsmarting the Sassuolo defence to provide a perfect assist for Alexis.
Not long after, we would see Lautaro create another fantastic chance with his lob just going wide of goal.
Inter looked up to this game with especially Lautaro getting behind the Sassuolo backline to cause some real danger.
Another South American would join in on the party, in this scenario it would be Vidal who would assist in making it a 2-0 scoreline. A smashed ball across goal from Vidal would lead to a deflection putting the ball across the line.
After what has been a tough week in football with the passing of Maradona. All Argentinians would’ve been proud of Inter’s number 10 in Lautaro who played fantastically.
Superb defence will win a title –
With the lockout against Sassuolo, we only saw Inter’s second clean sheet of the season. The stronger this Inter defence becomes, the more games Inter will win.
In the previous season, we saw Inter have the best defence in Italy. This was majorly seen with the preferred combination of De Vrij, Bastoni and Skriniar consistently being picked together.
Inter’s defensive woes season could come down to the preferred combination not being available for selection.
In Seria A, Inter have conceded 2 goals in 3 games with the back three above on the pitch. Without this combination, Inter have conceded 11 goals in 6 games. So it just shows you how vital these 3 players are to Inter’s success.
Special mention –
I’m one of the biggest critics of Roberto Gagliardini, but I thought his game was up to the standard of an Inter player.
The commitment to both his attacking and defensive duties in this game, and especially during his goal scored would’ve left a very positive impression on all.
Up one end blocking Sassuolo’s play in defence and intercepting the ball. Then releasing the ball and sprinting up field to be played in on goal from Darmian. Finally, the finish from Gagliardini was brilliant and it would put Inter into an unlosable 3-0 lead.
Inter fans need to see more of this!
Where to next?
Inter will head to Germany to face Monchengladbach, where game 5 of the Champions League group stage will take place. This will be an opportunity to get on a run of form, even if qualification for the next round is close to impossible.
Monchengladbach absolutely embarrassed Shakhtar in the previous matchday, so let’s see if Inter can get the essential 3 points needed.
