Romelu Lukaku has officially returned to Inter Milan on loan from Chelsea, only one year after he left in a transfer worth €115 million. His moved to London in august 2022 was very painful to neroazurri fans which thought that Lukaku could be a new legend in black and blue, especially because of his outstanding performance during the 2021/2022 season when Inter became champions of Italy after 11 years.
The Return of the King
Very early this morning around 6.00 am the former king of Milano landed at the Linate airport in Milan. Afterwards during the morning, he made his medical examinations at the Humanitas Hospital and then at CONI. Even after La Curva Nord statement of past week, several interisti gathered in both places to welcome Big Rom with cheerful chants. Il Gigante Buono was smiling as he usually did at Inter. By the afternoon he went to Inter HQ to meet President Steven Zhang and signed his contract. Finally, he made a brief interview with Inter Media House where he declared the following:
“A strong emotion. The story I had a year ago with this team was beautiful, for me and the fans. Inter have given me a lot and I hope to do even better than before. Now I have to work with the team and do the best I can “.
By the way, President Zhang also posted a video welcoming him and release a hint of the new number Big Rom will use, surprising everyone: #90. This was confirmed after by Inter in a post of Lukaku holding a big blue 90. So Edin Dzeko will keep the number 9? We will discover it later in the mercato.
The Numbers of the Return of Big Rom
The Belgian striker will earn around 8.5 million euros net in Milan. The Neroazurri must cover the entirety of his salary. However, for that Lukaku had to cut his earnings in almost 40% (He had a salary of 12M euros net at Chelsea). The figure agreed between the clubs is of a costly loan of 8 million euros plus some bonuses. These bonuses can reach the figure of 12 million. For that Romelu must help the team to reach some important goals as winning the Scudetto and having a successful European campaign. For now, the agreement with Chelsea is of a dry loan but there is some information that Lukaku will extend his loan for another year by similar figures and finally would be transfer after the second year in black and blue for an affordable amount of money for Inter.
What to expect of Lukaku?
We all know how good was Big Rom at Inter. In his last season with Antonio Conte he scored 30 goals and assisted 10 times in all competitions. He also was named by Serie A as the MVP of the 2020/2021 season. Of course he has had a regular to bad season with Chelsea. Also there is no more Pintus or Antonio Conte to help him in his physically and tactically performance. Nonetheless, Inzaghi is a coach that always wanted him and he will try to pull the best of Big Rom abilities. Also he will gather with several of his former teammates, especially Lautaro Martinez which made with him one of the most lethal partnerships in Europe. We wish the best to Romelu Lukaku in his second spell at Inter. He must recover his title of King!
