Another goal at the death has saved Inter, and Inzaghi’s job is safe in the short term after a 1-0 win over Torino.
There was nothing pretty about this match, as it was one of the worst performances for the last decade. There was zero momentum in Inter’s attack and it was a pretty pitiful effort from most of the team.
On the positive side, there were a couple of awesome individual performances from Handanovic, Lautaro and Hakan.
Let’s look further into the match itself.
Man of the Match –
Maybe a bit of healthy competition is the best thing for Handanovic. His performance today turned back the clock and it was the difference between a win and a loss for the Nerazzurri.
In previous weeks, Inter would’ve conceded at least 3 goals but Handanovic made sure Inter kept a clean sheet. Finally, we would keep an opposition to zero.
It’s a pretty interesting coincidence that Handanovic’s best game comes the match after he was dropped in the biggest fixture of the season so far. If you hadn’t seen, Onana played spectacularly against Bayern Munich in the midweek fixture.
I understand that Handanovic was superb, but our future is still Onana. One 10/10 match from Samir does not make up for the multiple matches where he was a complete statue in goal.
Let’s see what Inzaghi does, but I think to most of the fans know who should be our normal keeper moving forward.
Very disappointing –
This one is hard for me to say, but Barella and Brozovic have been terrible for a few matches now.
We expect our midfield to be our strongest component of our side. However, they have been below expectations this season.
Luckily, Barella was able to provide a divine assist for Brozovic today which ultimately won the match. A lovely finish as Brozovic scooped the ball into the back of the net in the 89th minute.
Before this moment of brilliance, both were sloppy with the ball at their feet and passes missed their targets on far too many occasions. Frustrations were hard to hide for both of them, as it was a below par performance from the two.
It really begs the question, how long before Asllani gets his chance?
Where to next?
Another Champions League fixture where Inter will want to put their best foot forward.
A win over Viktoria Plzen is a minimum. Three points in this group at this stage is like air. We need it otherwise we will not survive. I think Inter can actually get a victory though.
Prediction: 2-1 Inter
