Inter seal win over Verona with Darmian winner.

Inter have defeated Verona 1-0 to put one hand on the Serie A trophy. A fantastic Darmian goal all setup by a lovely Hakimi through-ball.

Currently there is an 11 point gap to Atalanta, although Milan have their match tomorrow verse Lazio. Potentially if Milan lose, all Inter would need is 4 points in 5 matches to seal the title.

A title race which will soon be over, and a season which Inter fans can truly celebrate. Surely Pazza Inter can’t show it’s face now, can it?

Let’s look a bit further into some key points in the match against Verona.

Super-Sub, Superman!

Matteo Darmian, wow! Incredible super-sub, and an absolutely incredible purchase he’s been for Inter.

We all knew about the potential Darmian possessed in the past when he was growing up in Italian football. However, after his stint at Manchester United, Matteo completely fell out of favour with all the big clubs.

No one wanted to sign him, and luckily he was picked up by Parma.

Since Matteo started at Inter he’s been a shining light. A player who would be classed at under-rated. To think Darmian was only 2mil Euros is insane, and what a steal he will be.

Darmian was the difference today and very often he seems to be in matches. Taking the place for Perisic as a sub was the right call, and great coaching by Conte to inject a match winner onto the field.

Still a clean sheet –

Inter have now had 13 clean sheets for the season so far. A mind-blowing statistic when you think that Inter only had 1 clean sheet in the first 8 matches. To then go 12 clean sheets in the next 25 matches helps you understand why Inter are clear at the top.

It was said months ago, get the defence right and Inter will win the Serie A title. We are looking at a situation where the back three in De Vrij, Skriniar and Bastoni are consistently dominating the oppositions attacking weapons.

Opponents are struggling to get any real chances at goals, and maintain any pressure in Inter’s half. This is all thanks to the wall which has built itself so strong as the season has progressed.

Out of form, and it shows –

Luckily Inter have missed chances and still kept the big point gap to the chasing teams. Our striking duo in Lukaku and Lautaro are finding it very difficult to get on the score sheet.

We saw a determined pairing up front to start the match for Inter against Verona, but just nothing good came from anything they really did.

Earlier in the season, some certain chances would’ve been buried. Especially the one on one Lautaro had today, which a part time footballer would’ve put into the back of the net. He just looks down on confidence, and fortunately that miss didn’t come back to haunt us.

Where to next?

Inter will travel away to face a bottom placed Crotone. Crotone have nothing to play for as even if they were to win every game from now, they would need all the results to go their way.

This will be the matchday where Inter seals the title completely.

Prediction: Inter 3-0
