Beppe Marotta gave a brief statement to a Sky Sport journalist just outside the restaurant in central Milan where had had dinner with the club’s other directors, president Steven Zhang and manager Luciano Spalletti. Supposedly, the board talked about he transfer situation and of any moves that could take effect in the last few days of the January window. After yesterday’s comments, which made it seems like the club intended to sell Ivan Perisic, Marotta placed a damper on the potential success of the operation.
In fact, regarding Perisic’s possible departure, Marotta said that “a concrete offer hasn’t been received yet, therefore a basic requirement is missing for the deal to work out”. The CEO was probably referring to the option to buy contained in Arsenal’s supposed offer for Perisic, which the club won’t accept. It seems, therefore, that Inter will be stuck with the Croatian winger unless assured payment is offered for him in the next few days.
Marotta, though, also reassured fans that everything is under control, saying that all clubs have to deal with unhappy players and that the Perisic case is a “completely normal situation that the club will have to resolve”.
