Lautaro Martinez has bagged a double as Inter stay in the title fight. A comfortable 3-1 in the end, as Cagliari are set to be relegated.
The hope is still there for Inter, even if Milan are in complete control.
Let’s look further into the match itself again Cagliari.
Man of the Match –
For a man who has “underperformed” for most of the season, he’s sure finishing strong. Lautaro was superb against Cagliari and was unlucky not to have a couple of goals in the first half.
Any chances Inter created, Lautaro was the main reason as he caused the Cagliari defence several headaches. Hitting the post and a last ditch effort stopped the scoreline blowing out a little to end the first 45.
In the second half, the clinical striker came to the forefront and doubled Inter’s advantage. A lovely through ball from Barella had Lautaro in on goal. He would make no mistake as he smashed the ball straight through the legs of Cragno.
Lautaro bringing up his 20th league goal for the season in style. Setting a record for the Argentine in his best season since joining Inter.
Half an hour would go by before Lautaro bagged his second for the night. A lovely setup from Gagliardini had Martinez one of one again, before a sublime chip over the keeper definitely putting the result to bed.
Over the last three months, it seems Lautaro has finally hit his straps. It’s great to see the Argentine playing well with confidence, which is something he missed for a long time.
One more game to go, so let’s hope Lautaro can smash home another 3 points for us.
Praying for a miracle –
Since the loss to Bologna, Inter have really done all they can. There has been some excellent football played since that disaster away to Bologna.
Unfortunately Milan just haven’t dropped points, and that’s what we’ve been banking on.
Hopefully Sassuolo can be the giant killers they have been known to be for a while now. The likes of childhood Interisti in Berardi and Raspadori are Inter’s biggest hopes. Also Scamacca and Frattesi who’ve been heavily linked with a transfer to Inter in the summer.
Of course, all that means nothing if Inter cannot overcome Sampdoria. With players like Candreva and Sensi, who would both love to score against Inter to prove a point.
We are in a terrible position but it’s our own fault. Although second isn’t too bad, I just wish we could’ve wrapped up the season like we comfortably did last season. Oh well, it’s not over until the fat lady sings.
Where to next?
Matchday 38, we’ve finally made it. San Siro will be jumping as a full house will hopefully cheer a title win. All matches on the last day in Serie A will be played at the same time.
Inter will face Sampdoria as mentioned earlier. We need luck to go our way but more bizarre things have happened in football.
Prediction: Inter 4-2
