Inter coach, Simone Inzaghi was interviewed after the Nerazzurri superbly beat Napoli 1-0 to start 2023 in perfect fashion.
Inzaghi started off by talking about the ageless Edin Dzeko and furthermore about his teams preparation.
“I’m happy for Dzeko, he’s doing very well, he has many useful characteristics for the team, he’s helping us a lot. We’re on the run, we need to move up the table and being the first to beat Napoli this season is an important sign.
“I have to be honest, it was a pleasure to see these guys play tonight. I’m happy with this match, played in front of an extraordinary crowd. This group trained in the best way throughout December, so I expected such a performance. It’s true, in the second part of the first half we ducked and gave Napoli the dribble, but we still kept the intensity high. The team was on the pitch in the best possible way.”
Inter’s manager went into further detail about what this victory means for the team. Also how players coming back from injury helps our momentum.
“This victory must give us great confidence for the future. In the last 10 games we have collected 9 victories, with even one qualifying round in the Champions League. In the league we started leaving points along the way, now we have to think about one game at a time. We are recovering all the players, Brozovic is missing and we are waiting for him because he will be important with all these close matches.”
The season has a long way to go, and Inzaghi hasn’t given up hope on title ambitions.
“Stopping Napoli was something special for everyone, the teams above us won anyway and we were good at beating Napoli. The championship is long, everyone is in the game.”
Finally, Inzaghi was asked about who he thought the best on the pitch was.
“On a night like this it’s difficult to name names, even whoever took over came in brilliantly. Calhanoglu was extraordinary in a very important role. He did a great job, like the other guys on the pitch”.
