Inter have outplayed Udinese away from home with a deserved 2-1 win. Both Perisic and Lautaro getting their names on the scoresheet.
A match where the title race would’ve been decided had Inter lost, since Milan won earlier in the day. Now it’s all to play for with 3 games remaining.
Let’s look further into the match itself.
The Croatian does it again –
For the second match in a row, Ivan opened the scoring for Inter. It was the perfect way to put Inter on the front foot with a superb header from a Di Marco corner.
The score was 1-0, and Udinese were certainly in shock.
For the remainder of the 90, Perisic performed like a superstar down that left hand touch line, with several runs at defenders. Unfortunately Perisic could not add anything further to the score, even though he setup a couple of brilliant chances for the team.
The goal was enough though, as Inter would not let a lead slip like in the Bologna game. Perisic would continue to dominate his side of the field in both attack and defence. Another Man of the Match performance and a very important reason why the contract extension needs to be completed.
We really missed him –
For all the criticism Handanovic has copped over the last couple of seasons, he has been extremely important to the success of this side. In the Bologna game, would see Handanovic out injured because of a back complaint and Radu stuffed up big time.
Luckily, Handanovic was fit and put on a masterclass inside the sticks for Inter against Udinese. Several shots which he saved with ease, and was very unfortunate on the goal.
Samir did everything right as he moved swiftly across the goal to save the freekick. The parry on the ball with his hand was collected by an Udinese player, before the ball was smashed across the face of goal for a tap-in. Not much could be done in that situation.
The big positive was Handanovic’s ball distribution, as many times the Inter defence was put under pressure yet smart passing from Handanovic alleviated the pressure and had Inter back on the front foot.
Good to have our Capitano back!
Need luck –
I’m not going to lie, I think the title is out of reach. Yet, if Inter can gather wins in the next 3 matches then we have done all we can.
The problem we have is that the teams who Milan are playing have nothing to play for. Verona and Sassuolo really can’t move on the table and aren’t fighting for relegation. So their minds are already on where their next holiday can be spent.
Where as Atalanta will still be in the fight for Europa League, however their form at the moment is horrible. If these matches were played 10 rounds ago then we would’ve stood a great chance.
Right now though, it definitely isn’t looking good. We blew our chance and I feel like this one will haunt us all off-season as the one that got away.
Where to next?
We host Empoli back at San Siro where a win is like oxygen. It’s so important to our survival in this time race where anything but 3 points will mean the end.
As always, Forza Inter!
