Inter’s title winning ambitions are not in too worse of a position since Matchday 30 ended. Although, a 1-1 draw with Spezia was surprising.
Even with this result, Inter are still 10 points clear of second placed AC Milan with only 6 games remaining. It would take an absolute miracle for Inter to not claim their first title in a decade.
With that being said, let’s look at some key points from the Spezia match.
Early mistakes coming back –
Earlier in the season we were seeing Inter dominate matches and not get the desired result. Today was the perfect example of that behaviour coming back once again.
With 20 shots at goal, to only have one hit the back of the net legitimately is pretty woeful. Let’s not forget, we did score two offside goals but they do not count to the scoreboard no matter how many go in.
The other side of the coin was Spezia had one shot for one goal. Very poor goalkeeping from Handanovic had us behind 1-0 early. Not much the defence could’ve done, as it was purely a goalkeeping mistake.
I think it’s time for our Numero Uno to hang up the gloves. Although, seeing this man finally win some silverware will bring a smile to all Inter fans!
LuLa missing in action –
After a brilliant start to 2021, Lukaku and Lautaro have dropped in form for the past couple of matches.
We have massive expectations on especially Lukaku, so when he misses some easy chances or becomes very wasteful it really stands out in a match.
Today was no different, both Lukaku and Lautaro had opportunities to put Inter ahead on the score sheet but just couldn’t do it.
The only positive I can take is that these two did actually put the ball past the goalkeeper. Unfortunately both of their goals were ruled out for offside though. Hopefully these two can bring back that brilliant run of form in coming games.
Exactly what we missed –
Danilo D’Ambrosio – Every time Danilo get’s subbed on in the 75+ minute of a match, something just happens.
Conte should’ve played Danilo today for a tiring Perisic instead of Young. When Inter need a goal, time and time again we’ve seen a Spiderman celebration come out of nowhere.
I don’t know what it is, but Danilo seems to pop up at the right place at the right time. Things just happen when he is on the pitch, so hopefully he can get some game time in the coming matches.
Arguably one of Inter’s most underrated players, and personally I don’t think his contributions get recognised enough.
Where to next?
Inter are finally back at home to face Hellas Verona. Feels like it’s been a while since we’ve actually played a game at the San Siro.
A win for Inter would almost certainly put the nail in the coffin for the title chasers.
Prediction – Inter 4-0
As always, Forza Inter!
