Inter stamped their authority at the Stadio San Paulo by beating Napoli 3-1. This marks their first win Naples since 1997.
Inter’s Romelu Lukaku scored a brace while Lautaro Martinez also got on the scoresheet.
The duo carried and continued their top form in to the new year as they synced up well with each other and dismantled Napoli’s defense.
Inter’s Nicolo Barella also featured in the second half along with Stefano Sensi.
Coach Antonio Conte and his players spoke to the media in the aftermath of the game
Antonio Conte — “This victory has real significance because getting all three points here is tricky for any side.”
”We played today’s match with character and these types of performances give us confidence.”
Romelu Lukaku — “We played a great game tonight, I’m happy for the fans because this is a win that sends a message to everyone.”
”Lautaro and I are great friends off the pitch and we manage to help each other when we play together. I’m happy with how we’re working together but I know that there’s still room for further improvement.”
“It’s important to have a leader like Conte behind you, we’re a young side and he’s a champion.”
Nicolo Barella — “I’ve worked hard to rejoin the team. This absence was long and difficult because I skipped matches that I would’ve loved to play.”
”This win iterates that we’re a strong team, we have one of the best coaches in the world and we are Inter – we want to compete until the very end.”
Lautaro Martinez — “We ran and we pressed well. We’ll keep doing what the Coach asks of us, we must keep improving.“
“I’m happy here at Inter, I’m only focused on these colours and this shirt.”
A promising sign for Conte’s side as they overcome Napoli but now they will immediately go in to preparation mode to face an in-form Atalanta side next.
