Antonio Conte held a press conference on Friday, November 1, 2019 at the Suning Training Center for the upcoming Inter vs. Bologna match. As we approach match day eleven of the Serie A, the race for the summit is brewing up at a brisk pace.
When asked about what Conte expects from Bologna match, Conte responded “They [Bologna] will look to bounce back after the loss to Cagliari. Bologna is a very good side and they play with great intensity. They like to press all over the pitch and apply pressure. I expect an intense game.”
Next up, Coach was duly asked about how much he was pleased with Lautaro Martinez and if he was any worried about how he [Lautaro] has received interest from other clubs. Coach calmly responded by saying “We need to look at the present. He’s training well and I am pleased with his progress. He can get even better as he is only 22 years old. As for the rumors, there are so many and they all are part and parcel of the game. I am focused on the play and the game and that’s what matters.”
Conte was asked to share his views on the VAR as it has been making headlines lately. Conte sighed and responded “I cannot say too much. It is not used in the same way for everyone. It is very important as it is a useful tool because it takes away major errors. Last year I was more positive about the VAR, I do not know how and when it is used at times. There is lack of clarity at times but it is not easy either for the referees.”
In the next question, reporters asked for clarification in regards to Moratta saying Scudetto is not an obligation. Conte responded “We always need to do our best. Scudetto talks are far too premature and early. We need to focus and work on our areas of strength. As a team, we all are working hard. We need to give all and make fans happy. Our goal right now is to give 100%.”
Conte was then asked about how many players he needed to strengthen the squad. Coach replied “These matters are not discussed in a press conference. These are private matters between me and the club. There is a good spirit here and we are on the right track. We have started a new project and we need to grow in to it. There have been many challenges and we know where we need to improve.”
“We want to be taken seriously” Inter coach claimed when reported informed him that CR7 said Inter is putting pressure on them after the Genoa victory. Coach further iterated by saying “We want other to stand up and take notice. This is what I want from Inter.”
Reporters were eager to know Conte’s view on Valentino Lazaro. Coach replied “He is a player who is very young and very talented. He is working very well and needs to given time and a proper chance. We have invested in him because he has good credentials. He is a player we firmly believe in.”
Coach was asked about his views on Matic as he was rated very highly at Chelsea, reporter wanted to know if Matic could provide a big contribution to Conte’s Inter. Coach was firm in his response by saying “I do not like to talk about other players. It is disrespectful. I respect all players I have worked with and Matic is one of them. “
Last question of the evening was regarding Inter’s injury situation at the moment. Conte clarified by saying “Vecino and Rannochia are back in training. Sensi is also expected to train today. As for Sanchez, we all know his injury is long term. Danilo is also back in training but depends how much pain he is feeling. We are optimistic.”
Coach ended the press conference by thanking everyone present.
