Inter smash Milan to raise Supercoppa trophy!

Inter have defeated Milan 3-0 in the Supercoppa Italiana final to claim their first trophy of the 2022/23 season.

A rampant Inter dominated their opponent from the opening whistle and within 21 minutes the score was already 2-0. The match would stay that way for the remainder of the first half with the score unchanged.

Inter would put the game to death in the 77th minute when Lautaro would score a world class goal to finish off the opponents. An outside of the foot dink straight into the back of the net.

The Supercoppa is Inters!

Let’s look further into the match itself.

Age is just a number!

The ageless Edin Dzeko was superb again today. An extraordinary touch from Dzeko for Inter’s first goal put Barella in on goal. Barella would find Dimarco at the back post to smash it home.

Again, absolutely wonderful from Dzeko in that lead up. Something which most strikers struggle to do.

For the second goal.. WOW!!! A freekick taken quickly from Bastoni with Dzeko running in between the lines. Dzeko one on one with Tonali and absolute rips him in half. A cut back sending Tonali to go grab some milk from the corner store and then banging his shot into the opposite corner.

An absolutely sensational goal.

It’s crazy that Dzeko is performing so well at his age though. As they say, class is permanent. As an Inter supporter, we need to renew Dzeko. If he asks for 4.5mil a season, then let’s give it.

The amount of times he has saved us this season needs to be recognised. Even to have such a performance in a Supercoppa final alone is enough in itself considering the prize money won.

I say this in the nicest possible way but at Dzeko’s age he should not be a starter for Inter. It’s pretty embarrassing that we have to resort to starting Dzeko but Lukaku and Correa just aren’t to scratch.

We also have no one knocking down the door in our Primavera team either, so without money I don’t see what the future holds for our strikers.

Special mention –

Il Toro was second best on field for me today. If not for the performance of Dzeko, we would’ve seen Lautaro grab that Man of the Match award.

Ever since the World Cup, Lautaro has gone from strength to strength. Scoring in 4 successive matches for Inter is impressive.

This is the Lautaro we want to see. This is the Lautaro who Inter supporters dream of consistently appearing in an Inter shirt. On his day, Lautaro is one of the best in the business. Especially with finishing like we saw in Inter’s third goal.

The drop of his shoulder to let the ball run past him, touch with his left foot then using the outside of his right foot to chip it over the keeper. It was a piece of absolute individual brilliance considering the defender he turned was Tomori.

Even year we expect this from Toro and he goes through patches of form. If, and it’s a big if, we see this Lautaro for the rest of the season then Inter can do special things. I hate basing expectations on one player, but Lautaro is the key to Inter’s success.

Where to next?

We party for a day then it’s back to business. The team needs to fly back from Saudi Arabia and then host Empoli in four days time.

I think the confidence of this win will help us gain some momentum.

Prediction: Inter 3-1

As always, Forza Inter!
