Inter have effortlessly defeated Sampdoria 3-0 with goals to De Vrij, Barella and Correa at San Siro. The winning streak stretches to four.
Inzaghi’s men looked focused for the full 90 and it was great to see the team in such a comfortable state. There were fantastic defensive efforts, individual performances and stunning goals.
Let’s look further into the match itself.
Man of the Match –
A player who is starting to get back to the form under Conte and then some. Nicolo Barella had arguably his best performance of the season so far. There were minimal mistakes and an absolutely breathtaking goal scored.
Nicolo commanded the midfield and the opposition really struggled to create anything through the middle of the pitch. Barella is going from strength to strength without Brozovic on the field which may be concerning.
We aren’t sure if this form will continue once the Croatian maestro is back from injury. One thing we can say for sure is that Barella, Mkhitaryan and Calhanoglu are loving life when playing with each other.
Back to Barella, it was like Deja vu today as he made a similar run against Barcelona to score a goal then. Today Barella made one of those smart runs and Bastoni found him perfectly.
The touch from Barella was sensational and then the finish was stunning. In form like this, it’s hard not to throw out opinions saying Barella is the best player in Serie A. He is definitely the best Italian in the league, that’s for sure.
Defence –
Another clean sheet with Onana in goal and another win with Skriniar having the captain’s armband.
The back 3 were back to their best today with Bastoni, De Vrij and Skriniar all starring. The recent form of Bastoni is so pleasing to see, as he went through moments not long ago were a lot of people doubted him.
Skriniar, since becoming Il Capitano, has also taken his game to the next level. It’s clear to me, he’s the best defender in Serie A and that’s why his signature is so important. We need him to re-sign, as the other players seeing our new captain extending with the club will bring so much confidence.
With De Vrij, I would give him another contract based on the fact he may be a rotation player. Unfortunately that’s where I see De Vrij’s career heading at the moment.
Last and definitely not least, what a breath of fresh air Onana has been. Since replacing Handanovic, it’s been difficult not to compliment Onana at every opportunity. I feel so safe with him in goal as he takes pride in not letting any ball get past him.
Where to next?
The next fixture is a pointless one for me. The Champions League group match against Bayern Munich, with both teams having zero to play for. We should definitely rest our players as the Juventus fixture is only a few days later.
Prediction: Bayern 3-0 Inter
