It may sound like an intercontinental friendly, but the winner will be established in court. The MLS is being sued by Inter for trademark infringement.
The Nerazzurri’s claim is that the term ‘Inter’ is synonymous to, and only to, Milan’s team. The opposition brought up two main arguments. The first being that Inter is used in many other clubs including Inter Atlanta FC and Inter Leipzig.
This argument has been considered invalid and has been dismissed due to the fact that MLS has not shown the right to valid proprietary of the name ‘Inter’.
The second argument is that ‘Inter’ is merely a descriptive word of the Club rather than a name. This argument is the only one left in favor of MLS and an outcome is to be expected by the end of 2020.
