Inter have gone down 2-0 to Bayern in a match which counted for zero. The most pleasing part is no injuries before the Juventus fixture.
There was nothing to gain from this match but bragging rights. Both Inter and Bayern had already qualified, and their places could not swap on the table. So 3 points to either team didn’t matter, with the risk of injuries the only worry.
Luckily for both sides, all players came off the pitch healthy. For Inter this is a massive plus, as the Nerazzurri will prepare for Juventus in a few days.
A second place finish from the “Group of Death” is a fantastic effort from the team. Especially after losing the first match, then gaining 10 from a possible 12 points on offer in the next four games.
Bayern are one of the best teams in Europe, so to drop points only against them is still pretty pleasing.
For the performance itself today, there isn’t much to say. A match where almost our B side took the pitch and we didn’t get out of 3rd gear for the 90 minutes.
It was pleasing to see Asllani on the field but we know he has a long way to go. Bellanova had a mixed night as there were moments of brilliance and then patches of disaster. Overall, these youngsters will be better for the experience.
Where to next?
An away trip to Juventus is very important to Inter’s late resurgence on the table. After a period of mediocrity to start the season, Inter will be looking to extend their winning streak in the league to five.
I think with Juventus’ injuries at the moment, it’s definitely possible for Inter to travel to Turin and win.
Prediction: Inter 2-0
