Inter have comfortably beaten Spezia 3-0 at home in front of a crowd of just over 71,000 spectators in total.
Goals from Lautaro, Calhanoglu and Correa were the difference as Inter dominated from start to finish. A fantastic bounce-back from Inzaghi’s men who struggled in the previous match at Lecce.
Let’s look further into the match itself.
Man of the Match –
A lot of fantastic performances from the team in general. Fortunately there was one player for me who stood out from the rest.
Alessandro Bastoni was superb in all facets of the match. His defensive duties were on show as he stopped all Spezia’s opportunities sent his way. On the attacking front, Bastoni did everything needed.
Many crosses and long balls were hit to perfection and he was unlucky not to add an assist to his name. Bastoni put a pinpoint ball near the back post as Lukaku met the ball with a header crashing it into the crossbar.
Inter are at the peak of their power when the defence is singing, and with Bastoni hitting high levels as he is, it’s going to be difficult for opposition teams to score against this Inter side.
Happy to say that Bastoni is transforming into the player we wished years ago. He is reaching his potential and will be such an important player for years to come.
Depth –
This is the first season in a while where we can be confident in every striker who is subbed into any match. The likes of Dzeko and Correa adding to the front two of Lukaku and Lautaro brings happiness to the soul.
The chemistry between Lautaro and Lukaku is up there in world football. Both players just seem to be on the same page and know each others game inside out.
In the opening matches, we’ve seen this in full flight. The quick touches between the pair, and also the intuitive runs is next level.
Add into the equation the lethalness of Dzeko and Correa in front of goal, and it’s a recipe for success.
If we stand any chance of winning titles this season, our attacking department needs to be at the highest level every single match. Here’s to hoping we can sustain goals over the course of the campaign.
Referees.. again?
No, fortunately not. I’ve changed my tune this week as the referee was very competent. There were no massive decisions to make, but I felt that occurred as the referee kept control so no situations escalated.
All the minor decisions were correct and that’s all we can ask for.
Ghersini kept his cards in his pocket and allowed play to flow. The ball stayed in play for a lot longer and recovery breaks were hard to find. It was high tempo for close to 90 minutes, and the referee allowed for a great brand of football to be played.
This probably helped Inter a lot more as they are definitely the fitter side. Fingers crossed the officiating of Inter matches stays in the hands of this referee in particular.
Where to next?
We find out our fate in the Champions League draw which will take place in a few days. It’s been confirmed that Inter will be in Pot 3 so we may face some big clubs. Challenge accepted!
Next match will be at the Stadio Olimpico to face Lazio next Friday local time. The toughest match so far and one we should look forward to. Last season we saw Inzaghi stumble in these matches, so will be good to see if anything has changed.
Prediction: Inter 1-0
