The horrible away form of Inter continued as Spezia defeated the Nerazzurri 2-1 to make it Inter’s eighth loss of the season.
A night which should’ve been a comfortable victory for Inzaghi’s men turned into embarrassment. A missed penalty, 20+ shots on goal and conceding two goals from two shots on target says it all.
Another performance which we will not learn from, as we made the same mistakes as previous matches again. Constantly this season we put ourselves under pressure and find ourselves in the same situations.
Unable to take our chances, unable to secure wins away from home against the small teams and unable to turn domination into wins.
Right now Inzaghi must be scratching his head just like the rest of us. At the end of the day, the coach will cop the blame, although the players need to take some too.
I don’t know where we go from here as dropping points to Spezia, Bologna, Monza, Empoli and Sampdoria is completely unacceptable. I think Inzaghi deserves to see out the season, especially if we can progress in the Champions League and reach top 4.
That is a matter for another time though.
Back to the Spezia match, on another night this would’ve been a different result. To dominate a match with 70% possession, 13 corners and over 20 shots at goal deserves something from the match.
For Inter though, converting shots into goals has been a problem for a long time. We lack a clinical striker and to be honest, in world football it’s hard to find this type of player.
The next two fixtures definitely define our season. We will know where we stand in a week and a half from now.
Where to next?
Inter will travel to Portugal to face Porto in the second leg of the Champions League. It’s really all or nothing here, as Inter will be aiming for a draw to qualify for the next round.
I really don’t know what to expect, but our recent form against big sides implies we will show up for this match. Let’s hope that is true.
Prediction: Porto 2-1 Inter. Then to penalties where Porto progresses.
As always, Forza Inter!
