Inter have convincingly won 3-1 over Roma after superb goals from Dumfries, Brozovic and Lautaro, as Inter go top of the table.
It may only be temporary, as we know Milan still needs to play Lazio. Although, by midweek Inter would have played their catchup game to Bologna so games played will be even by then so top of the table could be something we are used to.
Let’s look further into the match against Roma.
Man of the Match –
It’s hard to go against the engine of this Inter side an the best midfielder in Serie A. The Croatian maestro who pulls all the strings – Marcelo Brozovic.
There was a lot of fantastic performers against Roma, but it’s hard to go past Brozovic after that excellent solo goal. We saw how much of a hard time Inter had when Brozovic was out, and since he’s come back into the side we are absolutely firing.
The goal itself was sensational. A pinpoint run from Perisic before he slipped Brozovic in behind the Roma defence. He then faked a cross, took a touch before putting the defender off balance before finally smashing the ball into the top corner.
For the second match in a row, Brozovic was on the scoresheet and these goals have come at the most critical time of the season. There seems to be cohesion in the team, and the timing was pretty close to once Brozovic decided to re-sign at Inter.
This guy is so good and deserves much the majority of the praise for Inter’s current form.
Special mention –
The number two performer on the pitch today was Hakan Calhanoglu. If it wasn’t for the high quality performance from Brozovic then Hakan would’ve been the best on the field.
Providing two assists against Roma now puts Hakan equal first in Serie A for most assists with a total of 10. Pretty incredible for a player we signed for “free” in the Summer.
Besides the assists, Hakan provides a completely different element to this Inter side. To begin the match against Roma, we seemed to be a bit clunky and it wasn’t until the half hour mark where we finally clicked.
Hakan was the main reason for that with his fantastic first touch through-ball for Dumfries which put him in on goal. This was Inter’s first real chance at goal which was converted and from then on Inter’s midfield put them in cruise control.
Hakan has been a splendid signing since joining from rivals Milan. In making us stronger, he made a direct rival weaker so it’s a win win for us.
Let’s enjoy the remainder –
There are 5 games to go before the end of the Serie A season and it’s time to appreciate every game. Last season, it felt we put so much pressure on ourselves to win the title and didn’t really get to enjoy it.
As fans, we should be happy with where we currently are. Especially after losing Lukaku, Hakimi, Eriksen and Conte before the kick of a ball so this season was supposed to be a write-off.
Currently our achievements for the season are;
- Champions League knockout stages
- Supercoppa Italiana winner
- Final of Coppa Italia
- Sitting in 1st on Serie A table
With the above we have completely over-achieved the preseason goals and I really hope we can finish off the season in style.
Where to next?
As mentioned earlier, we have our catchup game against Bologna. It’s a midweek away game and it will be a challenge.
The form which Inter have showed lately, I still see us getting the 3 points and remaining top of the table.
Prediction: Inter 3-0
