Inter have romped Salernitana to earn back the top spot on the Serie A table. A convincing 5-0 win as the goals came from Lautaro and Dzeko.
A pre-match which consisted of Inter presenting this year’s inductees into the Hall Of Fame. The inductees including Eto’o, Materazzi, Sneijder and Pagliuca.
Back to on the field, and there was some celebrating to be had on there too.
Let’s look further into the match itself.
Back with a bang!
The goal drought from both Lautaro and Inter have been broken. It only took until the 22nd minute for Inter to open the scoring through Lautaro.
A perfect pass from Barella putting Lautaro in behind the line. A crisp finish as Lautaro slid the ball into the bottom corner and finally Inter were ahead in a match early.
Just before the half, Lautaro would double the score as again Barella provided a sublime assist. This time playing a long ball along the turf putting Lautaro into space with his front to goal.
A shot with the left foot this time as Salernitana goalkeeper Sepe could only manage to get fingertips to the shot. The confidence was back in this team, and looking hungry as ever.
Lautaro would cash in to score another, which is only his second hat-trick of his Inter career. The other hat-trick coming against Crotone just over a year ago in January 2021. Lautaro’s third goal came as Dzeko would smash in a cross accurately to Lautaro’s feet before the Argentine got some power into his shot as the ball crashed into the roof of the net.
It was a Man of the Match performance from Lautaro, and fantastic to have the old him back. It may just be Salernitana, but confidence all the same!
Clean sheets –
The defence for the 3rd match in a row through all competitions was superb as they kept another clean sheet. There was only a couple of half chances given to the opponents and Inter’s back three stayed strong. Bastoni was the best of the defence as he bullied anyone who came his way.
Handanovic again had a few shots to deal with and looked comfortable parrying them all away. It’s difficult to get a read on our captain, as some matches he is phenomenal where other times he is like a statue in between the sticks.
The more clean sheets we keep tallying up though, the more games we’ll win. It was unbelievable that our attack went so many games without scoring a goal, but I think that slump is over.
Against Liverpool we may not get a goal to be honest, but every other match until the end of the season we should put our opponents under a lot of pressure to eventually see them crack. This is a good sign today as again zero goals conceded, so let’s hope we can keep this strong mentality going.
Where to next?
As mentioned before, we will face Liverpool in a midweek fixture. A Champions League match at Anfield being two goals down is almost an impossible feat to come back from. However, we should never say never as anything can happen in football.
Unfortunately I just think the class of Liverpool will be too much for us to handle.
Prediction: Liverpool 2-0
