Two fantastic goals from Correa has secured a 2-0 victory for Inter over Udinese. The win coming in front of a full San Siro crowd.
Let’s look a bit further into the match itself.
Phenomenal back three –
For the second match running, Inzaghi chose two Italians in the back three. This time Ranocchia was able to show his worth, and he performed sublimely in defence.
It was a must to have players from our regular starting 11 get a break and the perfect time to do this from Inzaghi. A sensational defensive effort for the full 90 minutes and it was great to get back to back clean sheets for the first time of the season.
There were very limited chances given to Udinese as the Inter defence was solid as a rock. The pressing all over the park allowed the defence to pounce on any loose Udinese passes which put Inter massively in control for the entire match.
Any of the three in defence today could’ve easily been named man of the match.
The ability for these Inter defenders to interchange throughout the squad is something which will be so crucial to Inter’s title ambitions at the end of the season. Last time we saw D’Ambrosio come in for Skriniar, and this time it was Ranocchia for De Vrij.
It took a little while last season for the defence to find their groove, and it looks to be the same case this year. The pieces are starting to come together now which is good to see.
Should’ve had a hattrick –
The first half was just a Barella chance after another Barella chance it seemed. In total, Barella on his own had 7 shots at target which is unbelievable.
There were a few of these opportunities which should’ve really turned into goals. The first being a delightful counter-attack which Barella was on the end of a perfect pass from Correa in on goal.
There were complaints from Dumfries as he was free, but Barella had every right to take a shot at goal. Unfortunately the ball didn’t get past Silvestri as the final effort felt a little rushed.
The second best opportunity came when Barella took a touch with his chest past Success. On a different night, Barella may have fell down for a penalty as there was definitely contact from Success, but Barella played on. Again the shot would not get past Silvestri though.
It’s great that Barella got himself into these positions, but in the future he will really need to improve in those situations as they could be critical to the result.
Tucu making them count –
After a poor first half, Correa came out in the second half and took his only opportunities with both hands.
In the opening 45 minutes, Correa just couldn’t get anything right as every little touch or flick pass went to the opponents. Also, every time Correa had possession, he was crowded by two to three Udinese players who quickly smothered his time on the ball to steal it from him.
How rapidly fortunes can turn around as Correa scored two goals in quick succession. The first was a magnificent run from outside the box before smashing the ball into the back of the net.
The second a pinpoint cross from Dumfries as Correa took control of the ball just outside the center of the box. A touch forward before smashing the ball into the top corner of the goal.
It just shows, you give this guy an inch and he’ll take a mile. The brace will give Correa a bunch of confidence which is exactly what we need in the squad right now.
Where to next?
Inter will face FC Sheriff away in the Champions League. A tough fixture but hopefully Inter can keep this great run on form going.
Prediction: Inter 2-0
As always, Forza Inter!
