As former captain Mauro Icardi’s separation from the team seems as deep as ever and Keita’s injury still keeps him far from the pitch, Spalletti has had to resort to emergency measures to complete Inter’s offensive bench. He had already called up Italian under-19 striker Andrea Adorante for the Europa League match against Rapid in Vienna three weeks ago.
Spalletti has once again picked a youngster from Inter’s Primavera team to tag along with the first team for tomorrow’s away match at Cagliari. This time he chose Facundo Colidio, who would have been unavailable against Rapid as he was competing in the youth version of the Copa America in Chile. Inter purchased the 19 year-old Argentinean striker from Boca Junior’s academy in 2017 for 7 million euros, a significant investment for a player born in 2000. The youngster has shown his talents in Inter’s youth sector, scoring some decisive goals in last season’s Scudetto final and in the Italian Supercup, as well as this year’s UEFA Youth League. He has, however, struggled somewhat with consistency.
It’s still very unlikely that Colidio will get any playing time in the Sardinian capital, but he remains one of the Youth Academy’s most interesting prospects, one to follow carefully in the hope that he can follow the footsteps of other great Argentinean strikers that have worn the black and blue.
