For the first time in the 2020/21 season, Inter sit at the top of the Serie A table after a fantastic 3-1 victory over Lazio.
With the likes of Milan and Juventus both losing, it provided Inter with an opportunity to put their nose in front for the Serie A title race.
The win now means that Inter have taken 28/33 points on offer when playing at home. The Giuseppe Meazza is again finally becoming the graveyard it was all those years ago.
Let’s look at some key points from the match –
Lady luck on our side –
This season hasn’t provided too many lucky opportunities for Inter, but today there were two goals handed to Inter.
The first was a dubious penalty, which Lukaku stepped up and drilled the ball into the back of the net. If that penalty had gone against Inter, I think we would’ve all been very angry. Was it fair? Questionable.
The second was a perfect deflection off the defender which went straight to the feet of Lukaku, and again he would make no mistake as he took his second goal.
300 –
A massive congratulations must go out to Romelu Lukaku who has now banged in 300 career goals.
Since joining Inter, Big Rom has scored 39 goals in only 57 appearances which is an incredible goal/match ratio. In the process, he has also shut up his critics from his Manchester United days.
For a player who is considered to be “out of form” at the moment, he’s scored 4 goals in the past 3 matches. It seems for most of Lukaku’s career, he has always needed to prove the haters wrong.
Numero Uno –
Although Handanovic has copped a lot of criticism lately, he was extraordinary against Lazio. There wouldn’t be many keepers who could’ve kept a clean sheet tonight, and to only concede one was great from our captain.
If this is Handanovic’s last year, we really hope Inter can win the title and send Samir off in style. He has never won a trophy in his career, so this farewell would be fitting for a player who really deserves it.
Where to next?
The opportunity to go 4 points clear on the table awaits Inter. The next match will be the reverse derby verse Milan and this could really solidify Inter’s current ladder advantage.
