Sensational sting on Juventus: The Federal Court of Appeal sanctioned the team for the suspected falsified capital gains case with a 15 point penalty, going much over the 9 points asked by the federal prosecutor for the current Serie A league.
The executives who also requested extensions to UEFA and FIFA received harsh punishment as well: Paratici received a sentence of 2.5 years, Agnelli and Arrivabene received a sentence of 2, Cherubini received a sentence of 1, and Nedved received a sentence of 8 months.
Juve was third in Serie A with 37 points after 20 games this season, 10 points behind leaders Napoli. They drop to 10th place as a result of the deduction, out of European competition. This decision leaves Inter at 3rd place with 37 points and Lazio at 4th place with 34 points on the table.
“We consider this to be a blatant injustice also for millions of fans,” the club’s attorneys said in a statement. “We trust that this will soon be remedied in the next court.”
Juventus has asserted that its accounting complied with industry benchmarks and denied any misconduct.
