Acerbi scored his first goal for Inter and was interviewed by Inter TV after the extra time winner against Parma.
The match itself wasn’t pretty and Inter struggled to overcome their Serie B opponents for the majority of the match. Luckily Lautaro was able to send the game to extra time.
The heroics of Acerbi near the end of the 120 minutes was a much deserved reward for Acerbi as he’s been one of Inter’s best all season. We all know he was signed as a “backup” option, yet he’s been sensational.
Definitely a player who has silenced even his harshest critics. The Italian international has lead the pack as one of Inter’s most consistent in 2022/23. Also, the experience which Acerbi has brought has really helped us as we’ve been below par as campaign.
“I was in a head rush, I said there I am and I pull it and it’s gone. It was a very complicated match, we knew that the first round of 16 against an excellent Parma team would be difficult, we took a risk but we brought it home.”
Finally, Acerbi was asked about the fixtures ahead.
“The next two? We have to win them, with Verona in the league on Saturday and with Milan in the Super Cup, but let’s think about the championship first. We are a team equipped to go as far as possible in all competitions, let’s see how it ends.”
Personally, I think we are a much better team with Acerbi starting. Unfortunately, De Vrij has not had the same impact he had a few seasons ago. Especially when we let go of Ranocchia, we needed someone to step up.
Also, having Acerbi in the dressing room I’m sure has helped Inzaghi feel a bit more comfortable. As a former Lazio man, he would definitely help the coach tactically.
