After a disappointing midweek game, Inter have put in their most clinical performance of the season with a 6-1 win over Bologna.
There were a lot of impressive moments in the match today and it was just refreshing to have the match wrapped up before the 90th minute.
Let’s look a bit further into some key pieces from the match.
Man of the match –
It’s a really tough one as I thought many players were fantastic. Everyone did their job all over the pitch but there was one standout in my mind.
Denzel Dumfries is the guy today who gets my man of the match. Ever since signing for Inter, there have been comparisons to Hakimi which I think is a little unfair. Although today, we were thinking “Achraf who?” as Dumfries really did everything close to perfect.
The opening goal for Inter was exactly what we need from Dumfries moving forward. He made an offensive run down the edge putting the opposing defender in two minds. With one move, he got to the outside and smashed the ball across the face of the goal to find Lautaro at the back post.
Later in the first half, there was magic produced again as it was almost a carbon copy of Dumfries actions in the first goal. Another burn of the defender on the outside and a perfect low cross into the danger zone of the box.
The ball deflected out and Barella was sitting in a great spot to hit the ball into the goal. Inter were up 3-0 and Dumfries was absolutely on fire.
I really hope Denzel can keep adjusting and improving as the matches go by, as he will be a great asset to this Inter side playing like today.
Special mention –
Consistently to start this season, Milan Skriniar has been marvelous for Inter in both attack and defence. The world is finally waking up and starting to talk about our prized defender.
I think the best is still yet to come for Skriniar as he is really transforming into the benchmark defender across the Serie A competition.
Today we again saw some brilliance from Skriniar. The header for Inter’s second goal was trademark Skriniar, as he is definitely an aerial threat every time Inter has a set piece close to the goal.
A pinpoint corner from Dimarco and Skriniar made no mistake a few yards from the face of goal. That’s now 2 goals in 4 matches for the Slovakian. These contributions will really help throughout the season as goals coming from any player on the field is crucial.
Praise –
There are two people who get a bit of praise today.
The first being Inzaghi, as his tactics were spot on today. It didn’t take long to pick apart this Bologna side and Inter were ruthless for nearly the entire 90 minutes. We could say he got it wrong in the match against Madrid, but he bounced back perfectly today which is exactly what the fans asked for.
We saw for the first time the Argentine connection in Lautaro and Correa, but unfortunately it didn’t last long as Correa was taken off due to an injury. Fingers crossed it’s nothing serious.
Dumfries had his first Inter start and repaid the faith shown in him as mentioned earlier. Vecino was great today as he also had his first start of the season. Hopefully Vecino can add that wildcard to the midfield, as we know what to expect from Barella and Brozovic as they keep being monsters every game.
The second person who will get some praise is our captain Handanovic. I’ve seen a lot of fans and people in the media absolutely smashing Handanovic saying he should retire etc.
There was a save with the score at 1-0 to Inter which could’ve really broke the game open and changed the tempo of the match. A massive save on Soriano brought us back to the days when Handanovic countlessly saved Inter over and over again. He’s still an asset to this team when performing like that!
Inter were found out in this play and Soriano had a great look at goal, hitting the ball into the opposite corner but Handanovic made himself big and was able to get a full hand on the ball. It was enough to get the ball away from goal as the defence then assisted to eliminate the danger.
Where to next?
Another midweek fixture coming up, but this time away to Fiorentina. This could be a scary fixture as Fiorentina have impressed me so far with their matches this season. Especially that 2-1 away win over Atalanta.
I still think Inter has enough to take all 3 points though.
Prediction – Inter 1-0
As always, Forza Inter!
