Inter have been beaten by Roma by 2 goals to 1 at San Siro, as silly mistakes ultimately cost the Nerazzurri 3 points.
This is now Inter’s fourth defeat in eight games, with a lot of fans saying the Scudetto race is already over for Inzaghi’s men. Enough is enough as these lapses in concentration are derailing the season.
Let’s look further into the match itself.
Can’t put into words –
How in the season 2022/23 are Handanovic and Dzeko still starters for one of the best teams in Italy? Easy, this management continues to run Inter into the ground.
We are at a point now where Handanovic needs to get flicked to the bench and Onana MUST be a starter!
Roma had a total of 3 shots on target against Inter. Out of those 3 shots, Inter conceded 2 goals. When Handanovic is in goals, it seems like a clean sheet is a very slim chance.
Conceding goals is not something new as this season has been full of goals against us. In Inter’s four losses in Serie A, there has been a total of 11 goals conceded.
Handanovic is now a liability, and Onana is the only option moving forward. If we are going to get this season back on track, this change must happen ASAP.
On a different point, I didn’t think we would be so reliant on Lukaku. After last seasons fails, Inzaghi has persevered with Lautaro and Dzeko this campaign too. There is zero chemistry between these two, and it seems like Lukaku and Lautaro are the only partnership to work.
Don’t know where we go from here, but there must be massive reinforcements in the summer to get us out of this hole.
Shining light –
My Man of the Match and the one positive for Inter is Federico Dimarco. His recent form with Inter and Italy needs to be mentioned. Plus he is a true Interista and a person who bleeds for these colours.
Dimarco is starting to improve his offensive side of his game which is pleasing to see. Some have said he’s not up to Inter standards, but right now I would say he’s the only player who is playing at a high standard.
Today he took his goal and put Inter ahead on the scoreline. I’m keen to see the player Dimarco can be become in the next couple of seasons. His attitude impresses me most along with his love for this jersey.
We saw last season after missing a penalty Dimarco was brought to tears. It shows you how much this club and winning means to him. Let’s hope he can rub that passion onto others in the team.
#InzaghiOut –
The voices are getting louder after losses already to Milan, Lazio, Bayern Munich, Udinese and Roma this early in the season. The sacking of Inter is getting closer as these below par performances are not acceptable.
To be fair, this was Inter’s best performance of the season but that doesn’t say much as the standard has been terribly low. Also, to walk away with a loss at home enrages everybody.
A couple of minor tweaks may save Inzaghi’s job. Firstly, as mentioned above, Onana in for Handanovic. The other needs to be getting Gosens back to full fitness and confidence so getting major minutes is his legs is needed. A goal and assist will do him the world of good.
Correa needs to be started in place of Dzeko, with Dzeko only used as a super-sub. This is purely because of what Correa brings to the side. Pace, footwork and the ability to work with Lautaro which puts Lautaro more in the game. Overall Dzeko is a better player individually, but this is a team sport.
I’m not one to get behind sacking a coach until it’s absolutely warranted. I still think there is an opportunity for Inzaghi to prove and gain back the trust of everybody. I’m more inclined for the owners to depart before the coach.
Where to next?
We need to learn from this loss to Roma. Especially with a do or die clash with Barcelona on the horizon. If Inter lose, then we say bye bye to our Champions League campaign as we stand close to no chance of qualifying from the group stages.
Prediction: Barcelona 3-1 Inter
