A Beautiful Trip To Venice!

Inter have defeated Venezia 2-0 away from home after a lovely goal from Calhanoglu and a Lautaro penalty at the death securing victory.

I thought it was the perfect match to keep confidence high moving forward, as Inter looked comfortable for the entire duration. Venezia didn’t create too many chances as the Nerazzurri pressed fantastically all over the pitch.

Let’s look a bit further into the match itself.

Man of the Match –

It’s hard to deny that both Calhanoglu and Bastoni were spectacular today, but there was a standout for me who outperformed the two mentioned. For me, Marcelo Brozovic was the best on the field.

When Brozovic plays well, the team looks in control and results seem to go in our favour. Today was no exception as Brozovic ran tirelessly all over the pitch. The midfield looked solid as Brozovic made countless interceptions allowing some beautiful transition play on the counter.

From an opponent point of view, Venezia seemed to focus all their attention on Barella. It wasn’t the smartest of moves, as this allowed Brozovic loads of space and freedom on the ball.

On several opportunities, Brozovic was able to play both Perisic and Darmian down the wings and harness Inter’s full attacking capabilities.

It’s crazy this guy may leave for free if he does not renew his contract with Inter. For Marotta, do all that you can to ensure we do not lose our engine in the middle of the park. At the moment Brozovic is the soul of this team and a massive reason for Inter’s current success.

Special mention –

You have to give credit where credit is due. Hakan deserves praise for his recent performances and it’s ironic this run of form all started against his former team Milan.

In recent matches, Calhanoglu has been close to our best on several occasions and it makes me happy to see this. As you all know, Inter signed Hakan as soon as Eriksen had the on-field issues during the 2020 Euros.

A majority of Milan fans were glad to see Hakan leave their club as they labelled him “inconsistent” and “lazy”. Since joining Inter, it has taken time for Calhanoglu to find his feet inside this team.

I think we are finally seeing a player who is happy in his environment and his confidence is starting to grow as matches go by. Inzaghi is putting his faith in Hakan and the Turkish international is rewarding his boss with consistently outstanding performances.

Today, Calhanoglu scored a wonderful goal from outside the box putting Inter up 1-0 on the scoreboard. This provided Inter with the much needed advantage which allowed them to cruise for the rest of the match.

Special moments like these are exactly what we expect from players like Hakan. Let’s hope we see the best of Calhanoglu for the rest of this season.

Pressure’s on!

I’m sure this victory from Inter has both Napoli and Milan looking over their shoulders. The lead on the table has now been cut down to 1 point. Albeit Napoli and Milan still are yet to play on this matchday, but the pressure is definitely on them.

With some winnable fixtures coming up from Inter, I expect the gap to close even further with the likelihood of Inter overtaking by January. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Inzaghi has this Inter squad looking confident and I feel another title coming.

There is an air of confidence in this team, which is similar to what we saw with Conte last season. I don’t believe it’s arrogance in any way, it’s just these players believe in what their boss is instructing them to do on the field.

Even though the display against Venezia wasn’t one to be proud of, it shows that Inter has that champion mentality. The ability to not play at your best, and still comfortably get the 3 points is something to be smiling about.

I’ve watched enough football to know when a team looks happy, and it feels like everyone in the squad wants to be apart of this club. Great things are on the horizon for Inter, be ready!

Where to next?

A midweek fixture back at home to Spezia should see Inter give a lot of it’s usual starters a rest. Especially the likes of Barella and Dzeko who have played a lot of football over the past two months.

I think it will still be a solid win for Inter with the momentum strongly putting us in the right direction.

Prediction: Inter 4-0

As always, Forza Inter!
