SUPERCOPPA ITALIANA CHAMPIONS!!!

A late goal from Alexis Sanchez deep into extra time has ensured Inter win their first trophy for 2022 as the match ended 2-1 over Juventus.

We hope you celebrated this Inter win just like Anthony did on his livestream. Head over to our new Inter Worldwide YouTube channel here to catch it incase you missed it! We also had our wrap-up with Anthony and Moamen here where they discussed this incredible win.

It was really a game where Inter dominated so the result was a fair reflection. If anything, Inter should’ve made sure of the result a lot earlier then they did.

Let’s look further into the match itself.

Trophy is a trophy!

In the media and even a lot of rivals fan have said “This win doesn’t count for anything!”. At the end of the day, it’s a trophy which Inter will proudly show-off in the trophy cabinet.

If this trophy means nothing then try telling all the below it’s worthless.

Tell that to all the Inter and Juventus players who worked their backsides off for 120 minutes. Tell that to the fans who showed up to the stadium to celebrate their teams. Tell that to De Sciglio who had his head in his hands after giving his all on the pitch. Tell that to Bonucci who grabbed an Inter official after the final whistle. Tell that to Alexis Sanchez who celebrated his match winning goal like his life depended on it. Tell that to Handanovic who raised the trophy in the air with the fireworks going off in the background.

For Inter, this trophy is a symbol. A symbol that Juventus’ time is over and Inter are the new kings of Italy. It also is a symbol for Inzaghi to show that he is no longer in Conte’s shadow. This Inter has a new identity who are on top of the Serie A table, into the Round of 16 of the Champions League and also have their first trophy in January with several months to go.

The team is no longer dependent on Conte’s hard work and presence, as Inzaghi has made this team his own and then some!

Man of the Match –

With Sanchez coming on late, it’s difficult because he made such an impact with the goal. He deserves a special mention, but the Man of the Match for me was Bastoni.

The improvement of Bastoni we’ve seen under Inzaghi is unbelievable. In an interview earlier in the year Bastoni said “I’m an attacking midfielder in a defenders body” which I’m starting to believe.

Unfortunately under Conte’s reign, we didn’t see our centrebacks venture high up the pitch. Although I can guarantee this aided in Bastoni’s development as a defender. Under Inzaghi, everyone has a license to roam and Bastoni is loving the new found offensive freedom.

In today’s match, Bastoni made several key runs up the field and was unlucky not to have an assist. The penalty was setup from Bastoni in a central position passing the ball to Perisic before his flick on for Dzeko.

Even though he may not have played the last ball, he played a crucial role in the build up. Time and time again, it’s key moments being taken which Bastoni is grasping with both hands.

As weeks pass by, Bastoni is leveling up his attacking abilities which is very pleasing to see. Even on the weekend against Lazio this was shown with his superb goal and fantastic assist for Skriniar. Bastoni is going from strength to strength, and it’s giving Inter so many scoring options on the field.

It’s very strange to talk about a defender, and not once we’ve mentioned their defensive capabilities. I guess it just shows how great a player Bastoni is becoming.

Where to next?

We head to Bergamo for a tough trip to face Atalanta. If Inter can get the done away from home against a quality side like Atalanta then I’m sure we’ll win the Scudetto. This is the match which really tells us if the current hype at the moment is real.

The hype to believe we can beat Liverpool in the Champions League. Also, to show the world if we are the real deal, it all gets proven this weekend.

Prediction: Inter 3-2

As always, Forza Inter!
