Serie A season is back in action after a long pause due to Covid-19. Inter resumed their chase for the scudetto against Sampdoria and came up victorious. Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez got on the scoring sheet for Inter.
It was a pleasant outing for the most part as Inter looked dominating from the beginning. A fluid build-up play, precise passing, and good possession throughout.
However, Inter did look shaky in the second half when Sampdoria pressed higher and played man to man high-pressure ball. Inter at times could not handle or get out of their half as we have seen many times this season against teams like Dortmund, Barcelona, and others. Sampdoria did manage to pull one back in the 52′ of the game.
Here’s what Antonio Conte and few players had to say after the match:
Antonio Conte: “We should have finished the game off sooner. Even at the start of the second half, we had two huge changes to make it 3-0. Instead, we conceded from a corner. We’ve worked so hard, both tactically and physically, and we want to make most of our chances.”
“I’m still satisfied with the guys because they did well, but if we want to achieve something special then we need even more determination, both in the possession and when our opponents have the ball.”
“Now we have twelve games left where we have to give everything we’ve got and end of the season without any regrets.”
Christian Eriksen: “I can improve further and I hope to score more. I had a few chances tonight and perhaps I rushed the strikes too much but I’ll look to do better in the future.”
“Things keep getting better, I think it was the right decision to come here. I’ve been welcomed very well with a lot of warmth from both the fans and my teammates.”
“I don’t think that you’ve seen the true Eriksen.”
Nicolo Barella: “We should have finished it off sooner, to keep these games open until the very end can be dangerous.”
“Coach always tells us that we need to be more ruthless in front of goal. We all need to act on that and find more confidence so that we can finish games off.”
Next up for Inter is Sassoulo at home.
