Inter – Lazio

San Siro (Rain & Snow – 2℃)

With Juventus knocked out of the Coppa Italia, Inter’s chances of winning the long missed trophy have increased. The Nerazzuri will face off Lazio this week in order to face either Milan or Atalanta.

Inter and Lazio both lost their last game in Serie A against a Turin club and will try to change their trend winning a ticket to this year Coppa Italia Semi final. Last time this match happened in Coppa Italia was 2 years ago, exactly the same date and the same phase and it didn’t go well for us. Hopefully we’ll get a different ending this time.

Here’s a breakdown of the match:

Match Stats:

  • Inter and Lazio played 48 matches so far. Inter won 18 direct matches. Lazio won 14 matches. 16 matches ended in a draw. On average, in direct matches both teams scored 2.71 goals per Match.
  • Since the beginning of this competition, Inter won the cup 7 times, one more compared to Lazio. (Juve is leading with 13 times, Roma 9)
  • Our first Coppa Italia came in the 1938/39 season, Lazio had to wait another 20 year. Our last Coppa was in 2010-11 (small triplete with Fifa Club World Cup and the Supercoppa Italiana). Lazio won in 2012-13
  • Spalletti won this competition as a coach twice with Rome in 2006/07 and 2007/08 while Inzaghi won it 3 times as a Lazio player.

Match Facts:

Two of the main difference comparing these team data: the average of goal taken and the ball lost. Lazio takes almost twice the number of goal compared to us and they lose ball at least a quarter times more than us. In general, we also cross way more than them, but this is nothing new, since Spalletti made Inter the team that cross more in Italy and one of the top team in Europe.

Stats:

More of Lazio’s goal are scored by Ciro Immobile, this year (at least so far) not inspired too much by Luis Alberto and Milinkovic Savic. The lack of consistency in these two players is the main reason of the poor form of Inzaghi’s team. The other striker is a former Inter youngster, Correa, really fast and dangerous in the 1vs1. This is a one leg game, if the teams are still drawing after 90’ they will play 30’ over time followed by penalties if necessary.

The winner of this game will play a double leg semifinal against the winner of Milan – Napoli.
