According to media reports, Inter Milan are on the brink of signing Diego Godin from Atletico Madrid. It would be the first signing of Giuseppe Marotta, the former Juventus CEO who orchestrated some of the greatest deals for Juventus in the past decade.

Some of his best transfers include Dani Alves (Free), Patrice Evra (€1.4m), Andrea Pirlo (Free) and Paul Pogba (Free). With Diego Godin, the Uruguayan’s contract is set to expire in the summer with Inter reportedly orchestrating a deal with his agent to bring the Athletico Madrid defender to the San Siro.

Godin has won multiple trophies such as, Spanish Cup (2012/13), the Spanish Super Cup (2013/14), the Europa League twice (2011/12 and 2017/18), the Copa America (with Uruguay in 2011) and the UEFA Super Cup three times (2010/11, 2012/13 and 2018/19).

With Godin’s potential arrival, a lot of eyebrows have been turned towards Joao Miranda who seems to have been benched by the arrival of Stefan de Vrij and with reports suggesting the Brazilian is unhappy with his current predicament and failure to start games, the arrival of Diego Godin could signal that the Brazilian’s time at Inter is coming to a end.

Diego Godin has featured in 18 games this season, scoring two goals and one assist. Albeit helping Atletico to a stellar start this season with 14 games unbeaten in La Liga and conceding only 12 goals in 17 matches. The lowest goals conceded for any team in La Liga. Athletico Madrid sit second in the league, sitting 3 points behind league leaders Barcelona and 2 points ahead of Sevilla.
